Artist Bio

Hello, I’m Vanessa van Soest, a visual artist based in Rijswijk, the Netherlands. I create paintings and collages using paper, canvas, paint, and found materials. My process is intuitive and explorative — there’s no fixed plan, only a focus on color, texture, and the connections that emerge along the way. Through playful experimentation, I follow what feels right, both visually and emotionally.

My work is rooted in the present moment: a color combination that resonates, a piece of paper that finds its place, a line I didn’t know needed to exist. I cut, layer, move, and paint — listening to the process until something appears that feels complete. It’s not about explanation, but about presence.

Each painting or collage is open to interpretation. They don’t follow strict rules or carry a predefined message. They are simply allowed to exist — layered, still, and full of possibility.

Some works are playful, some quiet; some earthy and raw, others light and airy. But all are honest. What I aim for is connection: between materials and emotion, between color and space — and perhaps, between you and what you see.
