Artist Bio

Hello, I’m Vanessa van Soest – visual artist based in Rijswijk, the Netherlands. I work with paper, canvas, paint and found materials. My process is intuitive and explorative. There’s no fixed plan, only attention to colour, texture and connection. Through play, I search for what feels right – both visually and emotionally.

My work is rooted in the present moment. A colour combination that resonates. A piece of paper that falls into place. A line I didn’t know needed to be there. I cut, layer, move, paint and feel – until something appears that makes sense to me. Not as an explanation, but as a presence.

My paintings and collages don’t carry a predefined message. They don’t follow a clear path or a strict set of rules. They don’t need to explain or resolve anything.
They are simply allowed to be. Still. Layered. Open to whatever you may find in them.

Sometimes they’re playful, sometimes quiet. Sometimes earthy, raw or light. But always honest. What I’m seeking in my work is connection: between materials and feeling, between colour and space – and perhaps between you and what you see.
